17  Gardening 101

Learn the basics of organic gardening, building healthy bodies, healthy soil, and a healthy planet. Preparing soil, pH, sun and water requirements, hardiness, composting and worm composting, weeding, garden tools and more will be discussed. 24  Robert Burns Dinner & Tartan Ball

Come join us for an elegant evening with Robert Burns!  Hear traditional Poetry, see the presentation of the Haggis, Bagpipes, Drums, Traditional Scottish Dancing and Celtic Music provided by Exorna.  The event begins with cocktails- prime rib dinner provided by Turasky’s at 6 p.m.  Dancing begins at 8 p.m. Location: Illinois State Fair Grounds, Artisans Building. 21 Advanced Gardening

Learn how to start seedlings and plant in a variety of methods: square foot, biointensive, forest/perennial gardening, native, rain, 3- or 4-season gardening, edible landscaping, and using permaculture design. Carillon Belles
The Carillon Belles meet at 7:30 p.m. on the second Monday of each month, except June and July. If you are interested in joining this group of ladies who work with the Rees Carillon Society to promote the Thomas Rees Memorial Carillon in Washington Park, phone (217) 529-6959 or (217) 787-3532. 

GROW in Illinois 
A 12-step, community mental health support group program for people with mental health issues, emotional problems or who are having difficulties coping with life circumstances. Meetings are held weekly and are anonymous, free and confidential. Springfield locations: MONDAYS -- Laurel United Methodist Church, 631 South Grand Avenue West, Room 300, 7-9 p.m. / THURSDAYS -- Laurel United Methodist Church, 631 South Grand Avenue West, Room 200, 7-9 p.m. / THURSDAYS -- Peoples Church, 1109 E. Channel 4 Wants to Put You and Your Organization on TV!
Springfield's Public Access Channel was created to give local residents and non-profit organizations the opportunity to produce programs to air on channel 4. This public service is provided by an agreement between the University of Illinois at Springfield, the City of Springfield, and Insight Communications. Your group may choose to produce a program, or a series of programs about your organization. A community calendar is also available for listing special events, meetings, and general announcements. To discuss how your organization could benefit from using Springfield's Access channel, call Jan Morrow or Tina McGinnis at (217) 206-6799.
