Lincoln Library Circulation Policies Summary

Library cards
Library cards are issued to anyone age five and older. Photo identification (Driver’s License or State ID) with current address OR other photo id and machine generated mailing address within the past 60 days must be presented to apply for a library card. (No P.O. boxes are accepted as proof of residency). A parent or guardian must sign applications of customers age 5 to 17.

Customers who reside in the corporate limits of Springfield receive a free library card.

Customers who reside outside these limits and do not reside in another library service area may apply for a non-resident card. Call 753-4900 x225 for the current fee and further information.

Library cards are not transferable. You must use your own library card.

If you forget your library card, you must present photo identification and your correct home address (no P.O. boxes accepted as proof of residency).

You will be charged for materials returned in damaged condition or considered lost on your library card.

Report lost or stolen cards as soon as possible. You will be responsible for material charged to your library card.

Report any change of address and provide proof of new address.

Loan
2 week loan on most items, 7 days for video and DVD

2 renewals per item (some items are not renewable)

1 renewal on videos and items borrowed from other libraries (some items are not renewable)

No renewal on items others are waiting for, discovery packs, CD-ROMs or vertical file materials

Renewal may be done by phone (753-4900 x 216) or on the library’s web-site.

Limits
75 books, 5 video cassettes/DVDs, 10 compact discs, 10 sound cassettes, 10 audiobooks, 20 periodicals, 5 kits, 2 CD-ROMs, 10 vertical files, 1 discovery pack

After reaching these limits on your card, items must be returned and discharged before more may be checked out on your card.

Fines
Videos, $1 per day (Maximum $10 per video returned late)

Other items, 15 cents per day per item (Maximum fine is $5.00, except for paperbacks, periodicals, vertical file items which have a maximum of $3.00 per item)

No Refunds on fines

Lost Materials
Refunds or credits will be issued for material located by the customer within 365 days after payment has been made for the lost material

The $10.00 processing fee for each lost item charged is non-refundable

Damaged Materials
Charges vary according to the damage up to the list price of the material at the time of purchase

Collection Agency
When a customer owes $50.00 or more, the account is referred to a Collection Agency

A $10.00 fee is added to the account if sent to collections

Internet Access
Internet Access to your account is available with a Personal Identification Number (PIN).

Proof of identity and address must be provided in person at the library to receive a PIN
