Lincoln Library Provides Access for People with Disabilities

CCTV—The Friends of the Library have purchased a closed captions television (CCTV) unit for the purpose of magnifying text for people who have difficulty reading regular size print. It can also be helpful to people who have trouble seeing what they write. The unit is in the Periodicals Center on the Main Library's 3rd floor.

JAWS—Speech technology provides access to software applications and the Internet through use of a integrated voice synthesizer.  The content of the computer screen is transmitted through headphones. A Braille guidebook and set of six instructional cassettes are available for use in the library.   Located on 2nd floor next to the Reference desk.

MAGic—For vision-impaired computer users, computer screen content is enlarged from 2 to 20 times its usual size.  A user guide is available for use in the library.  Located on 2nd floor next to the Reference desk.

TTY—Ultratec Minicom IV— A TTY (also known as a TDD) is a simple keyboard device, which permits a deaf or hard of hearing person to type a conversation over the telephone. Customers may request information by contacting Lincoln Library through this device or place calls to local numbers only.>  Instructions available. Located on 3rd floor in the Periodicals department.

Braille Keyboard—Located on 2nd floor next to the Reference desk.

VISUALTEK—Materials in print format are magnified and viewed on a screen in either positive or negative images. Located in the Periodicals Department on the 3rd floor.

OPTELEC 20/20—Materials in print format are magnified and viewed on a screen in either positive or negative images. Located in the Periodicals Department on the 3rd floor.

Assistive Listening Device—Williams Sound Systems—Assistive Listening Devices are amplification systems designed to help people hear by improving the signal-to-noise ratio for the listener. Inquire at the Circulation desk.
