Friends Program: Exploring the Bottom of the World
The Southern Ocean and Antarctica are some of the most remarkable regions on Earth. Professor Charles Schweighauser of the University of Illinois at Springfield, spent a month on the Antarctic Peninsula and adjacent islands including the Falklands, South Georgia Island, and the South Orkneys in January. On Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at 7 p.m. Professor Schweighauser will present a slide show featuring: penguins, seals, whales, birds, and the seascapes of this remote and starkly beautiful part of the world. The program is free and open to the public.

Membership
The Friends of Lincoln Library invite you to join them in supporting Springfield's Public Library. They share a common belief that a good library is extremely important to the intellectual and cultural growth of the community. Members of the Friends work together to help Lincoln Library in a number of ways. Funds raised from annual book sales are given to the library to enhance the collection, support programs and purchase equipment. In addition, the Friends provide Dial-A-Story (525-5000) for children. They encourage area writers by sponsoring the Writer of the Year Awards. They support the library staff by underwriting the cost of its annual Staff Institute.

Book Sale Donations
The library accepts donations of good used books year round for the sale at the Main Library. There is a donation bin in our lobby. We cannot accept: Books that are water damaged, moldy, etc. We do not accept magazines (the exception being new magazines of popular interest for our Library Store). The Friends appreciate your donations but please remember that if you give us items unsuitable for the sale this causes extra expense for the library to sort through and discard them.
