Discussion

Talk about a topic with community members and experts.

In The Message, Ta-Nehisi Coates reflects on his travels to Senegal, South Carolina, and Palestine and the power of storytelling. Panelists will consider race, literature, media & politics. We then invite the audience members to discuss the book as we consider the importance of speaking out, especially when power tries to silence truth-tellers.

A limited number of free copies of The Message will be available on a first-come, first-served basis [UPDATE: NO MORE COPIES AVAILABLE]. Fill out this form to RSVP, receive updates and discussion questions, and to request a free copy for pick up. Copies of The Message are also available to borrow from Lincoln Library. UIS Students can request a ride from campus via the form.

Sponsors: The Center for Lincoln Studies, UIS departments of English, History, Sociology & Anthropology, Lincoln Library
