The Holodomor: The Hunger Plague

The Lincoln Library will be screening a documentary by History of Everything Youtube Channel on Holodomor, a manmade plague that is estimated that between 3.5 and 5 million died in Ukraine between 1932 and 1933. It was only recognized in 2006, America would recognize it in 2018.

A Brief Overview: In the Late 1920s Joseph Stalin forced private farms to become collectivized and demanded a grain tax to pay for his Five Year plan to industrialize the USSR.

In 1932, when dust storms rolled through the US Midwest, the Soviet Breadbasket experienced severe crop failures to which Moscow closed the borders to outside aid while still exporting its harvests.

In four years, Births had been halved, Deaths more than tripled, the life expectancy fell from 42 to 5.
