United World Federalists

“The object of the Chapter shall be to promote the acceptance of the beliefs and general understanding of the purpose of the United World Federalists, Inc. in strengthening social forces favorable to world-wide peace and justice through law and order.”

The chapter was most active between 1949 and 1972 based on the existence of the newsletters of that period. The 1954 membership list contains 79 names which may have been the greatest number for the chapter. The UWF-Springfield was succeeded by the World Federalist Association of Central Illinois. Most of the activity of the UWF chapter focused on nuclear disarmament, détente with the Soviet Union and its allies and the ending of the Vietnamese Conflict.

Scope The collection contains chapter minutes, newsletters, correspondence, membership lists, annual reports, bylaws, agendas, and special events materials.
