Beth & Amy by Virginia Kantra

Kantra has taken the two younger March sisters from Little Women and weaved a compelling, contemporary story. Beth is on the road with country music star (and boyfriend) Colt Henderson. But the limelight is too much for her and her health takes a toll. Amy's getting her business, “Baggage,” up and running in New York, but can't forget her time in Paris with longtime family friend, and sister Jo's ex-boyfriend, Trey.

Battle Royal by Lucy Parker

As a contestant on the baking competition show "Operation Cake," whimsical baker Sylvie Fairchild clashed in a battle of personality with uptight judge Dominic De Vere. Had her glittery unicorn cake not exploded in Dominic’s face, she probably would have made it to the finale, but he promptly voted her off the show. Four years later, Dominic and Sylvie are running competing bakeries on opposite sides of the same street, vying for the same opportunity to make the cake for the upcoming royal wedding, and judging the new season of Operation Cake together. Flour, glitter, and sparks fly.

Unseen City by Amy Shearn

Meg Rhys is a textbook example of a “spinster librarian”. In her forties, she spends most of her time in the local history stacks of the Brooklyn Public Library, and the rest of the time living hermetically in her apartment with her dead sister’s cat and her dead sister’s ghost, staunchly resistant to any suggestions of change. Enter Ellis Williams, a charming library patron seeking assistance in figuring out whether his family’s home might have a ghost of its own.

Bird Box by Josh Malerman

Malorie didn't believe there was something out there at first. Her sister tried to warn her. Incidents of suicide and madness were popping up around the world but nothing close to home. Until their parents stopped answering the phone. Then there were cases occurring in their city. Finally, pregnant and scared, Malorie finds her sister in the bathroom in a pool of blood. Thus starts a frightening tale of unknowns and survival.

Friends and Strangers by J. Courtney Sullivan

Friends and Strangers tells the story of two women at a crossroads in their life. Sam, a senior at an all girls college, has signed on to babysit Elisabeth's baby, Gil, part-time. The women indulge in a quick friendship, relying on one another for honest insight as Sam prepares to adjust to a new more grown up life outside of college and Elisabeth adjusts to her new life in a small town. Both women, however, find themselves dealing with personal demons, elitism and privilege.
