Scope ThLincoln Home Area Advisory Commission 1964-1965 materials, documents related to the Illinois Supreme Court case Warren E. Rebman, Gloria M. Rebman and Lydia L. Page vs The City of Springfield, the city council of the city of Springfield, the city plan commission of the city of Springfield and the state of Illinois January Term 1969, plans and drawings for the Lincoln Home area, Springfield tourist brochures, and Springfield Historic Sites Commission reports on historic homes.

Background The Springfield City council created the Lincoln Home District Advisory Commission in July 1963 to work in conjunction with the proposed restoration of the home area to its 1840-1860 appearance. In February 1966, city council approved an ordinance merging the Historical Monument Commission and the Lincoln Home District Advisory Commission to form the Historic Sites Commission. A new state historical sites law permitted cities to use their land condemnation powers to preserve historical areas. Under the city ordinance, the group would advise the council on petitions for zoning changes in those areas of classified as historical sites in the in the new zoning ordinance, the Lincoln Home District and the former Great Western Railroad Station.

The Junior League of Springfield, Springfield Central Area Development Association, Abraham Lincoln Association, Women’s Club, city government contributed to the preservation and development of the Lincoln Home area and Old State Capitol.
